The many projects tackled by Janefield Women’s Institute members during its long history were celebrated at the group’s 90th anniversary celebrations last week.

Forty-seven past and present members of Janefield WI, and members of sister WI groups, gathered at J.Tee’s Golf and Function Centre near Mosgiel for the celebration last Thursday.

The event was attended by Mid Otago Federation of Women’s Institutes president Kate Cochrane and National Executive Committee member Mary Reet.

Group president Alma Blaikie shared a history of Janefield WI prepared by Maureen Cadzow.

Three candles, representing past, present, and future members of Janefield WI, were blown out by stalwarts Carol Garry, Maureen Cadzow, and longest-serving member Jeanette Tansley.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
