Contractors worked on cycleway improvements in Portobello Rd, between Portsmouth Dr and Timaru St. Work on the project, worth about $620,000, began last month.

Dunedin City Council infrastructure networks general manager Ruth Stokes announced the changes last month in response to issues caused by initial changes in 2014.

The design included improved drainage and wider lanes for vehicles. The new cycleway would be separated by a grassed area and there was also a section of shared path. Work is expected to finish in late September.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
