New Zealand Women’s Empowerment Principles committee chairwoman Vicky Mee (left) awards a certificate to the Dunedin City Council, which was accepted by council human resources and organisational development manager Robyn McLeod yesterday.

Mrs Mee said the council was awarded the certificate because it had committed to following the seven principles and supporting the WEPs.

The seven principles aim to: establish high-level corporate leadership for gender equality; treat all women and men fairly at work; ensure the health, safety and well-being of all workers; promote education, training and professional development for women; implement enterprise development, supply chain and marketing practices that empower women; promote equality through community initiatives and advocacy; and measure and publicly report on progress to achieve gender equality.
