"Our team is making modifications to an existing overflow at the intersection of Surrey St and Hillside Rd, which relieves the system by diverting wastewater from Surrey St," Dunedin City Council Three Waters, property and urban development general manager David Ward said.
"We will also add wastewater cross-connections at [the] other end of Surrey St, at the intersection with Macandrew Rd, to make better use of existing pipe capacity."
The measures were described as short-term modifications and Mr Ward said the council was also working on a medium-term strategy to reduce overflows across the city.
A preferred option is expected to be selected early next year. About $60 million was budgeted for that in the 2025-34 long-term plan
