WorkSafe notified after swimmer injured

Worksafe has been notified of an incident at Dunedin’s Moana Pool, where one person was seriously injured on Friday.

An Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter flew the injured patient from nearby Roberts Park to hospital in Christchurch.

A St John spokeswoman had said the swimmer was in a serious condition on Friday and had possible spinal injuries after jumping into the pool.

WorkSafe confirmed yesterday it was making initial inquiries to establish what the next steps would be.

Dunedin City Council city services acting general manager Robert West said staff had checked on the welfare of the injured person.

The council would review the incident to see if changes were needed, but "we are very pleased with the way our pool staff responded".
