About 50 aspiring performers aged between 8 and 18 from schools around the region took part in the 2019 Dunedin Performing Arts Competition Society Junior Vocal Competition on the weekend, held at Logan Park High School.

Among them were Dunedin girls Jeila Morrison (8), Leila Hughes (8), Ava Schaumann (9) and Jasmine Ho (9) competing for the Chris Fennessy Cup for performers under 10.

Convener Clare Barton said this was the 118th year of the competition, which took place over three days, concluding yesterday.

The judge this year was opera singer Robert Tucker.

The senior vocal competition for performers 18+ will be held from September 26 to 29.
