Hillary Award achievers

Seven Otago secondary school pupils will receive the Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award gold certificates at a ceremony in Christchurch this weekend.

They are John McGlashan College pupil Edward Talbot, St Hilda's Collegiate School pupil Kate Wilson and St Kevin's College pupils Teresa Lamont, Jessica Langley, Karla Miller, Jessica O'Connor and Aimee Pickles.

They are among 21 in the South Island who will receive the awards from the Governor-General, the Hon Sir Anand Satyanand, on Saturday.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award is a programme open to all aged between 14 and 25.

The pupils have spent the past 18 months developing skills and undertaking physical recreation and community service.
