Youth awards now open

Secondary school pupils who have made a big contribution to their community and their school have a chance to be recognised through the TrustPower Oamaru youth community spirit award.

Nominations for the awards, which are open to all year 13 pupils at St Kevin's College, Waitaki Girls' and Waitaki Boys' high schools, close on April 30.

Three pupils nominated by their schools will speak to a judging panel comprising representatives of the Waitaki District Council, the community and TrustPower.

The award winner receives a framed certificate and $500, half of which will go to a community group or organisations they select.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
