There are concerns for a 94-year-old man believed to be missing near a river north of Christchurch .

It is thought Kenneth Kidd was fishing at the Waiau River near Culverden before he disappeared.

A friend spotted Mr Kidd's car by the river this morning near Lower Flat Rd; however, Mr Kidd was not able to be found nearby.

Family and friends had concerns for his welfare and the police were keen to speak with anyone who might have seen him in the last day or so.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
