Accused buttock stabber appears in court

A Masterton man has appeared in court charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm after another man was hospitalised with three stab wounds to his buttocks.

Kerry Godfrey, 23, entered no plea and his lawyer Louise Elder did not apply for bail yesterday in Masterton District Court. Ms Elder instead asked for Godfrey to be remanded in custody for three weeks to allow police to provide disclosure. Godfrey had initially been charged with assault using a weapon.

The injured 48-year-old man was taken to Wairarapa Hospital after the alleged assault, which police said happened during a domestic-related argument on Tuesday.

The victim did not receive life-threatening injuries.
