Anger in court over Tauranga death

Anger boiled over at Tauranga District Court this morning as two men appeared accused of the murder of a man found dead in Ohauiti earlier this month.

The men, 36 and 37, have jointly been charged with murder, assault and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The body of Takena Tiepa-Ranapia, 19, was discovered on Mansfield St in the suburb of Ohauiti early on the morning of November 30.

In a late development, a 40-year-old woman has also been jointly charged with assault and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

She is also individually charged with possession of methamphetamine.

All three accused received name suppression until they next appear in court.

One of the men pleaded not guilty to the charges.

As that man began to leave the dock, calls rang out from the public gallery where half a dozen family members of Tiepa-Ranapia sat.

One man yelled "it's all on now n*****" and another "you killed my son".

One of the upset men was being held down by a woman sitting next to him when police asked the men to leave the courtroom.

The woman has been remanded in custody until a bail application can be heard in court tomorrow.

The two men have been remanded in custody until next month.
