An armed offenders squad callout in Canterbury this morning has ended with a gunman being taken into custody.
The callout in Darfield, 46km west of Christchurch, at 8.30am was sparked after a man was reported to have a firearm at a Northcote Street house.
The Christchurch armed offenders squad attended and the area around the house was cordoned off.
Police contacted the man who came out of the house and gave himself up.
He was arrested and two firearms were found.
No shots were fired and no one was injured, police said.
