Armed police are searching a forestry block north of Napier where they believe a hunter may have been injured.
Police were alerted by farmers on a pig farm near Tangoio who heard gunshots and what they thought was a man calling for help, but so far no sign of an injured man has been found.
Road blocks have been set up on Tangoio Rd and Aropaoanui Rd, and police armed offenders squad, dog handlers, Search and Rescue staff and the Lowe Corp Rescue Helicopter have joined the search.
