Arrest made over threatening letters

A male youth has been arrested after families in Mount Pleasant in Christchurch received threatening letters.

Police said he was yewsterday charged with two counts of extortion in connection with writing and sending threatening letters in June this year.

He will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday.

Police said the complainants have been advised and were relieved that the person responsible would be held to account for the stress he has caused to them and to the people living in the Mount Pleasant community.

In June, some parents at Mt Pleasant School were sent letters demanding money and threatening harm to children.

At the time police said the matter was being taken seriously and police patrols had been increased in the area.
