The man accused of shooting a taxi driver in Miramar has appeared in Wellington District Court.

Police arrested Dylan Nuku (26) in Strathmore early this morning. He later appeared in court charged him with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.

Nuku appeared before Judge Bruce Davidson and was remanded in custody until January 26.

"This is a good result and should provide some reassurance both to the victim and the wider community," Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee said.

"We'd like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter.

"The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and we would still like to hear from anyone who has information which could assist our inquiries."

The driver, Alem Tessema, was shot in the shoulder on Saturday night and is recovering.
