The man who allegedly fired a pistol at a police officer will appear in Auckland District Court today charged with attempted murder.
Murray Toleafoa was caught by armed police shortly after midday yesterday at a central Auckland supermarket.
The 30-year-old was being hunted after he allegedly shot at a police officer on Friday in the CBD.
Police say Toleafoa was in a car driven by Nadia Ball when the pair were stopped by police early on Friday morning.
As a constable spoke to the pair at the driver's window, Toleafoa allegedly leaned around Ball and fired at least one shot in the police officer's direction.
It missed, but the constable was left with burn marks on his arms.
The officer remains off work.
