Baby's death 'left a hole'

The mother of a baby boy who died from head injuries earlier this month says his death has "left a hole" in the family's lives.

The eight-month-old died a day after being flown to Starship Hospital from his Hamilton home on June 15.

Police said the death followed a domestic incident and a 34-year-old Hamilton man has been charged in relation to the baby's death and will reappear in court next month.

The baby's mother said the family was "devastated" at the loss of the little boy.

"He was a much loved son, brother and nephew and his death has left a big hole in our lives.

"We are grateful for all the support we have received. We are struggling to come to terms with our loss and request that we are left to grieve in private." The names of baby, his family and the defendant have all been suppressed
