The man accused of crashing into a bench seat in Kaitaia's main street on January 12, killing 54-year-old Edward Waenga, then fleeing, has pleaded guilty in court.

Bayley Te Kohu Karena Goodhue entered a guilty plea to driving with excess alcohol causing death, driving while disqualified and failing to ascertain injury.

Goodhue was further remanded in custody after entering the pleas before Judge J.C. Down in the Kaitaia District Court yesterday, but is scheduled to appear again tomorrow to apply for bail. A sentencing date is also expected to be set tomorrow.

Goodhue has yet to plead to an unrelated charge of burglary.
