Body of missing hunter found

The body of a hunter who went missing in the Coromandel has been found.

Senior Sergeant Andrew Townsend said the body of 50-year-old Scott Grant Driver, from Kaimarama, was located near his home, at the bottom of a bluff yesterday evening.

"Our thoughts are with family and friends of Scott at this time," Mr Townsend said.

Waikato police became concerned for Mr Driver's safety after he failed to return home from an overnight hunting trip yesterday.

District Search and Rescue Coordinator, Sergeant Vince Ranger, said it was out of character for Mr Driver to not to return home as he usually only went out for a few hours.

Searchers were also concerned after they found Mr Driver's two pitbull terrier dogs. He had taken the dogs hunting with him.

Police said the matter had now been referred to the coroner.
