A body believed to that of missing man Amandeep Singh has been found in bush near Gisborne.
Gisborne police said the body was found in scrub on a section of Kaiti Beach Road at 6.15pm yesterday by people walking in the area.
Mr Singh, an Indian national aged 22, was last seen on December 29 leaving his home Gladstone Road in Gisborne at 11pm.
His Mazda Lantis car was found abandoned in Dalton Street in the suburb of Kaiti about 11am the following morning.
Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford said police and Environmental Science and Research scientists will conduct a scene examination in the area the body was found, which is expected to take until tomorrow to complete. A post-mortem examination is also to be conducted to establish the deceased's identify and the cause of death.
Mr Ford said Mr Singh's family have been advised of the situation.
Anyone with information about where Mr Singh was between 11pm on December 29 and 11am on December 30 is urged to contact the Gisborne police.
The Kaiti Beach area is of particular interest to police and any resident with information is also asked to contact the police.
