Boy found dead in river

The mother of a 3-year-old boy found dead in a river 200 metres from his home has posted a tribute to her son on Facebook.

Julia Tapp has posted a photograph of her son Ezra with the words "Our darling wee Ezzybear. Just two days ago you sat eating noodles blissfully unware this would be our second to last day together.

"This morning you were so happy and had an awesome day and sushi for lunch. I can't believe that this cruel world could take a life in a heartbeat. I love you my little man Rest in Peace."

Friends have sent messages of condolences to the Tapp family.

Police were notified about the missing boy shortly before his body was found yesterday, Senior Sergeant Peter van der Wetering said today.

Police arrived at the property around 3.30pm to help the family in extending the search for the toddler.

"It was then that a neighbour and the father made the discovery," he said.

"It looks like the toddler has walked away from the property and wandered in to the river."

He said the death was not being treated as suspicious and the coroner had been informed.

Mr van der Wetering said the boy's family were distraught and they were being helped by Victim Support.

He said the river was 200 metres from the family's property.

"Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family because of this tragedy," Mr van de Wetering said.
