A 7-year-old Minginui boy is in a serious but stable condition in Rotorua Hospital after being hit by a car in the remote township near Murupara.
The accident happened about midday today leaving the boy with serious leg and head injuries.
The boy was flown to Rotorua Hospital by the BayTrust rescue helicopter.
