Breakfast host quits

Morning television host James Coleman has made a surprise exit from TV3's Sunrise amid questions about the future of the troubled show.

Coleman, who has co-presented the show with Carly Flynn since it first went to air last October, announced yesterday he was leaving, effective immediately.

TV3 head of news Mark Jennings would not give details about Coleman's departure, other than saying it was "not completely out of the blue".

Industry insiders suggested Sunrise's days might be numbered unless it revived flagging ratings in the breakfast slot.

Its ratings have hovered around 20,000-30,000 for much of the show's existence. Rival TV One's Breakfast regularly draws about 140,000 viewers.
