The man accused of shooting and seriously injuring a person on a Christchurch bridge will remain behind bars until his next court appearance.

Jesse Grimwood (22) appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday morning and did not seek bail or name suppression.

Police allege Grimwood shot a man in the shoulder following a disagreement on Sunday night at the intersection of Radley St and Ferry Rd in Woolston.

The victim was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Grimwood is facing six firearms charges, including wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The accused and the victim were known to each other. Grimwood allegedly fled the scene after the shooting and was found by police on Tuesday.

He was due to reappear on January 20.
