Tiger Woods caddie New Zealander Steve Williams has put hecklers on notice saying he won't tolerate any cheap shots aimed at his boss.

Williams told Sunday News he will remain on the bag for the world number 1 when he eventually returns to golf.

Woods yesterday apologised in a televised statement for a string of extra-marital affairs.

Williams said he would be Woods minder should he cop any verbal abuse from fans. Woods is currently undergoing counselling for sex addiction and yesterday made his much-anticipated apology to his wife, family and fans at the TPC Sawgrass course, the home of the PGA tour.

"I think when Tiger gets back to playing, people will be appreciative of the fact he is going to play," Williams said. "There are some cases where other people, not necessarily sports people, who lead a high-profile life have been in similar situations - and they haven't returned to (their) profession.

"There are always going to be people who are going to knock you ... Being the No. 1 player in the world and being as successful as Tiger has been, there have been people who have knocked him anyway. I am sure there might be a few more, it goes with the territory."
