Capital's cats to be microchipped

Cats in Wellington will soon have to be microchipped after councillors voted to change the bylaws this morning.

The Wellington City Council's environment committee's vote, which is subject to annual plan funding, would give cat owners 18 months to chip their kitties.

The New Zealand Veterinary Association supported the move.

Spokesman Callum Irvine says microchipping is the best way to identify cats.
