A Manawatu grandmother had her summer holiday plans ruined when thieves made off with her caravan.
Etty Wells had been looking forward to taking her grandchildren on a trip, the Manawatu Standard reported.
The caravan was bought by her late husband five years ago and had allowed Ms Wells to travel with the dialysis equipment she must use four times a day after suffering kidney failure.
She packed it on Wednesday, ahead of a trip to Foxton Beach, but returned to her Ashhurst home near Palmerston North two days later to find only a set of gouge marks in her driveway, where the caravan had been dragged off with the supports still in place.
It was the third caravan to be stolen in the region over the last week but Ashurst police said it was not known whether the thefts were related.
One victim was more lucky than Ms Wells, chasing the thieves from his James Line property, on the outskirts of Palmerston North, and convincing them to unhook his caravan and give it back.
