A young boy is in a critical condition after a crash south of Auckland this morning.
Three people were trapped for a time in two cars after the head-on collision, which happened at 9.30am on Awhitu Rd in Waiuku.
The boy was airlifted to Starship Hospital and a middle-aged woman was flown to Middlemore Hospital with serious injuries.
A third person was taken by ambulance to Middlemore Hospital with moderate injuries.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
