Child dies after quad bike crash

A four-year-old boy injured in a quad-bike crash in Canterbury last month has died in hospital.

The child was taken to Starship Hospital in Auckland following the crash at a Tai Tapu property, near Lincoln, on Sunday April 27.

Police today confirmed he died as a result of his injuries on Saturday.

They believe the boy had been riding on a quad-bike with an adult when it crashed.

"The adult rider, aged in his 60s, was also injured in the crash and received hospital treatment but has now been discharged," police said.

The police serious crash unit was investigating the incident.

Police said the name of the child, who did not live at the property where the fatal crash occurred, was not yet available.

"The family has requested that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."
