Concern for missing mental health patient

Police hold real concerns for a mental health patient who has gone missing from Northshore Hospital in Auckland.

Patricia Hogarth, a 60-year-old European woman, went missing yesterday afternoon. She is of slim build with grey hair and was last seen wearing hospital pyjamas and  carrying a blanket.

Police said Ms Hogarth is a chronic schizophrenic, but did not pose a risk to others.

Senior Sergeant Mike Flatt, of the North Shore, said it was possible that a member of the public may have given Ms Hogarth a bed for a night, without knowing about her circumstances.

"Last night was very cold and we are obviously very keen to find Patricia," he said.

There were several sightings her around Takapuna and Belmont yesterday evening.

Police said Ms Hogarth may have approached a member of the public who gave her $10 at about 9pm in Belmont.

She was also believed to have visited a dairy and a fast food outlet in the Takapuna area about 7pm and may have been travelling on an old rusty mountain bike.

Police said she has possibly changed into a bright maroon shirt, dark green camo-style pants and grey shoes. She may also be carrying a white plastic carry bag and a black plastic bin liner.

Members of the public are asked to phone the Waitemata police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if they have any information.
