Police are this morning hunting dangerous fugitive Matthew Kidman, believed to be in possession of a motorised golf cart in the Upper Hutt area.
Acting senior sergeant Braydon Leniham said that Kidman, who may be armed, probably took the cart from the Silverstream Golf Driving Range.
He urged members of the public not to approach him but immediately report his whereabouts to police.
He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and shorts.
Police earlier said that an area between Fergusson Drive and the Wellington Golf Club at Heretaunga was being scoured with the assistance of a helicopter.
Kidman, on bail for firearms offences, is considered dangerous.
He sparked a search by the armed offenders squad, dog handlers, a negotiation team and the Westpac helicopter on Tuesday when he was reportedly seen in a car with a firearm visiting a house in the suburb of Naenae.
A firearm was later dumped at Taita Cemetery before Kidman headed into the hills.
Police patrols have combed hills around Lower Hutt over the last two days.
Police said Kidman was regarded as dangerous, had a number of convictions for violent offending and was on bail for other alleged firearms offending.
He is described as Caucasian, 187cm tall, of thin build wearing a white top and dark pants.
