Drive-by shooting in Motueka

Police are investigating a drive-by shooting in Motueka overnight.

Two shots, possibly from a shotgun, were fired from a passing vehicle at a house in Woodlands Avenue just after 11pm.

The shots smashed the front windows of the house.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Johnston of Nelson Police said that while the occupants were home at the time, "thankfully no one was hurt".

"This type of unsavoury behaviour has the potential to cause serious injury or worse," Mr Johnston said.

"When we find the person or persons responsible they will be held accountable through the courts.

"These reckless actions will not be tolerated in this community."

Police believe the vehicle used in the shooting was possibly a dark-coloured 4WD or similar.

Police are urging anyone with information that may help identify the offender to contact police immediately on, 03 546 3840 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
