Family rescued off Raglan coast

A family of five out fishing near Raglan have been plucked to safety after their aluminium boat was downed after hitting rocks.

The Coastguard was called to Jacksons Reef, south of Raglan, about 6am today.

Coastguard skipper Kevin Dreaver said a small aluminium "pleasure boat" with five people on board had hit rocks.

Nobody went into the water and the family were waiting on the reef for rescue when the Coastguard arrived, he said.

Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter said they had been called to attend but were turned around when it transpired the people were safe.

No-one needed medical attention.
