Female motorcyclist killed at road works named

A woman on a motorbike who was killed at a road works site last week has been named by police.

She was 38-year-old Veronique Bernadette Renee Bond from Maramarua.

Emergency services were called to the collision involving a road works vehicle and Ms Bond, who was on a motorcycle, at Island Block Rd, Meremere, just before midday last Thursday.

Police said it appeared a road contracting vehicle had collided with Ms Bond as the larger vehicle was reversing. Ms Bond died in the collision.

An investigation was launched by the Waikato serious crash unit and the commercial vehicle investigation unit, alongside health and safety regulator WorkSafe NZ.

Today, Detective Russell Crawford said the crash was the subject of a number of investigations.

He said police continued to work closely with WorkSafe on behalf of the coroner.

"Nine weeks into the year, Wednesday's fatality was the 10th in the Waikato District so far in 2015, and police are urging all road users to use extreme care on our roads," Mr Crawford said.
