Fire services were called to the blaze at the Kiwi Honey shed at midday, and three appliances and a tanker were used to bring it under control, central fire communications shift manager Murray Dunbar said.
Firefighters would remain at the scene to dampen down hot spots this evening, he said.
The fire reportedly destroyed $1m worth of honey. Its cause was not yet known.
