Foreign nationals in $700,000 jewellery heists

Police are looking for two men travelling on Mexican passports after two jewellery robberies in Auckland last month.

Juan Leal Casillas and Jose Roberto Jimenez Perez were last seen in Christchurch on May 27. Police said they were possibly travelling in a grey Mitsubishi 380, registration number DDZ991.

They were part of group of seven whose activities were investigated by police after a Sydney-based jewellery manufacturer and salesman was robbed of jewellery worth more than $100,000 in Parnell on May 2.

Two other international jewellery salespeople were robbed of more than $600,000 in gems by five offenders outside Rydges Hotel in Auckland's Federal St on May 17.

Three women and two men have been arrested in connection with the robberies, and will appear in Auckland District Court tomorrow charged with aggravated robbery.

It was important the two outstanding travellers were found, Detective Sergeant Phil Cox of Auckland Central CIB said today.

"We've alerted the hospitality industry and Customs, but it seems the two men are laying low at this stage. We'd very much like to speak with them to fill in some gaps in our information," Mr Cox said.

Two of the arrested women have been charged with receiving stolen goods.

Police said three of those arrested were Colombians travelling on United States passports.

Nationalities of the other two were unconfirmed but they arrived in New Zealand in April using Mexican passports.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of the two at large were urged to contact police.
