Fred Dagg’s famous get-up will be on show at Te Papa for the next three months.

The instantly recognisable hat, shearer’s singlet, shorts and gumboots date from the 1970s.

They were worn by actor John Clarke as he portrayed the hapless and hilarious farmer.

The outfit and gear were given to the national museum in Wellington by Clarke in 2002.

The decision was made to display them in the wake of his death in April.

Curator Stephanie Gibson said Fred Dagg was a character who endured - whether it was his antics on the farm or his smart, satirical view on New Zealand culture and politics.
