Fugitive Matthew Kidman was captured by armed police tonight in Upper Hutt.
Detective Sergeant Mike Sears from the Lower Hutt police said Kidman was found following an extensive two-day search.
Police were seeking Kidman, who is on bail for firearms charges, after an incident on Tuesday where he was reportedly seen in a car with a firearm visiting a house in the Lower Hutt suburb of Naenae.
He has since been tracked across various parts of Hutt Valley, including surrounding hills.
"Kidman's capture was the result of help from members of the public and from extensive inquiries by police," Mr Sears said tonight.
Kidman is in custody and due to appear in Lower Hutt District Court tomorrow on a range of charges including firearms offences.
