Girl drowns at Auckland home

A 9-year-old girl has drowned at a South Auckland house.

Paramedics were called to the house in Takanini about 7.50am on Sunday, St John Ambulance confirmed to the Herald.

A 9-year-old girl died at the scene.

Police confirmed the girl had drowned. Her death would be referred to the coroner.

The family are members of the Plymouth Brethren Church, whose members have been supporting them.

Senior Sergeant John Yearbury said the young girl had other siblings and a family member discovered the body in the morning.

It was too early to say if it was an accident or medical event, Snr Sgt Yearbury said.
