Gunman on run in Northland named

Police have released the name of the man believed to have shot at police in Northland early yesterday.

They are searching for 33-year-old Joshua Mason Kite.

A massive manhunt has been under way since police were fired at in Whangarei and their unmarked car was stolen.

Police say Kite is armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

He has three warrants to arrest for offences that include possession of methamphetamine for supply.

He is described as Maori, 180cm tall and of medium build.
