A homicide investigation has been launched after the body of an elderly man was found in Wanganui.
The body was found on Campbell St about 8.30am.
The street has been cordoned off while a scene examination takes place.
"We are in the very early stages of our inquiry and are gathering information at the moment, including formally identifying the victim,'' said Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Kirby of Whanganui CIB.
"I would like to hear from anyone with information about suspicious behaviour or movements around Campbell Street over the last 24 hours.''
