Hunter rescued from Urewera National Park

A hunter has been rescued from the Urewera National Park 30 hours after injuring his leg.

The 30-year-old was picked up by the Rotorua-based BayTrust Rescue helicopter yesterday afternoon after he had fallen and seriously injured his leg, helicopter pilot Ben Fry said.

The sole hunter was found after another hunting party found gear at a hut and had not seen anyone else in the area.

They started searching for a man and found him further up stream, Mr Fry said.

They stabilised the man and were able to take him to the hut where the rescue helicopter picked him up.
