Ashburton homicide: party link investigated

Canterbury police investigating the death of a man in Ashburton are appealing for information about a party where people may have been threatened.

Emergency services were called to a property in McDonald St, Netherby, about 11.45pm on Friday where they found a critically injured man.

The 23-year-old died there a short time later.

Detective Inspector Michael Ford said it's understood there may have been party at a Tinwald property on Friday night where people were reportedly threatened and wants people to come forward.

Meanwhile,a forensic examination of the scene at McDonald St is under way. 

Det Insp Ford said the man’s body would be taken from the scene this afternoon and an examination would be carried out on Sunday.

Police were working closely with his family and providing support, he said.

Officers were also speaking to a number of people present at the time of McDonald St incident.
