Jogger fights off attackers

A Hamilton jogger managed to escape her attackers after being set on a random attack on Wednesday.

The attack occurred around 7.20pm on Wednesday on Grantham Street between the Ferrybank Cafe and the Bridgewater Eye Clinic, police said.

The female victim was jogging down Grantham Street on her own when a van blocked her path and one of the occupants attacked her.

She was able to break free and run towards the boat ramp carpark.

Hamilton City CIB Detective Sergeant Andrew Mortimore said police were interested in speaking to anyone in the area at the time, in particular a gentleman who offered assistance to the victim near his vehicle in the boat ramp carpark.

He was not a suspect but was key to assisting the police enquiry, Mr Mortimore said.

Anyone with information about the random attack was asked to contact Detective Sergeant Mortimore on (07) 858 6200. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
