Jury continues manslaughter deliberations

Jurors returned to court this morning to continue deliberations in the case of a Wairarapa mother charged with killing her young son in a road accident.

Wendy-May Connon has pleaded not guilty in the High Court in Wellington to the manslaughter of four-year-old Konrad Truger after she lost control of her car on a moderate bend on Kahutara Rd near Featherston on January 16, last year.

Konrad was thrown about 30m from the vehicle. He suffered severe brain injuries and died three days later.

The prosecution alleged that Connon had been speeding while under the influence of drugs.

The jury of seven women and five men began their deliberations just before 4pm yesterday and elected to go home overnight about 5.30pm.
