A quick-thinking life guard rescued a man who got into difficulty while water jogging at an Auckland swimming pool yesterday afternoon.
The business manager for Cameron Pool and Leisure Centre in Mt Roskill, Brendan Owens, said one of their regular swimmers was water jogging up and down the pool about 2pm yesterday, when one of the life guards noticed a change of colour in his face.
"[The life guard] jumped in and assisted the man to the side of the pool... helped him out of the pool, and put him in the recovery position until the ambulance arrived.
"He was fine, nothing happened - I guess it was just good life guarding by the life guard at the time to notice these signs.
"We have pretty good life guards at Cameron Pool under pretty good leadership."
Mr Owen said he could not speculate as to what had happened to the swimmer, but a St John Ambulance spokeswoman said the man was transported to hospital in a moderate condition.
