Lost tramper calls police for help

A 18-year-old male called for help early this morning after sustaining a minor injury while tramping near Gisborne.

Senior Sergeant Duncan Hall said the young man called emergency services about 4.30am and told police he was lost in the bush and had suffered a minor injury.

The man was tramping in the Raukumara Ranges north of Gisborne.

Mr Hall said police were now working to rescue the young man.

"We got a phone call from the man who told us he was lost in the bush.

"A relative of his has been in contact with us, they believe they know where he is, we have also done a mobile locator on his cellphone," Mr Hall said.
