The 39-year-old man charged with assaulting two-year-old Masterton toddler Caleb Skinner can now be named.
Jason Mark Sutherland, a Masterton orchard worker, also faces new charges of assault against a different child and breaching a protection order to physically abuse the child.
In Masterton District Court today, police prosecutor Sergeant Garry Wilson indicated the charge of assault on Caleb would be withdrawn and replaced with a more serious charge of causing grievous bodily harm.
This charge carries a maximum 14 year imprisonment sentence.
No pleas were entered on the charges.
Sutherland was remanded in custody by consent until April 10.
