A woman called police from a house after becoming concerned for the safety of two children there, about 11am, police spokeswoman Elizabeth Young told NZPA .
Police, including a hostage negotiation team, went to the house and the man gave himself up about 12.15pm.
No one was harmed, Ms Young said.
A 33-year-old man has been charged with threatening behaviour and assaulting a female.
