Man charged with murder of 11-week-old baby

A 29-year-old man was due in court today charged with murdering an 11-week-old baby who died three days after she was taken to Auckland's Starship Children's Hospital in December.

Tahani Mahomed was badly malnourished when she was taken to hospital and her parents were later charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life and wilful cruelty.

A post mortem showed she died of a skull fracture and numerous other injuries.

Police said they arrested the man today and charged him with murder.

Tahani was admitted to Middlemore Hospital on December 28 with head injuries and died on New Year's Day at Starship.
